Soundscapes 2003 – 2005
Collection is inspired by techno / electro dance music and culture. Sound translated into form, colour, texture and motion. At present stage, our evolution humanity is still facing many deep problems and also has side effects from industrialisation. Although this is felt in painful disbalances, there are aspects of urban life that fascinate. Electricity is a natural force that we transformed into higher dimensions like substance to light. Artificial light sources, communication, music are those things that symbolise us for what we are, transformers between earth and cosmos. The City lights print choosen for this outfit is inspired by Plastikman / a.k.a. Richie Hawtin’s music. Extremely electronic his sound is almost without vocals, often described as, ‘microhouse’ or ‘glichtechno’. As another polarity, music of Darren Emerson is the core of funk, joyous, flowing impecably mixed. Collective is inspiring point for this underwater atmosphere design. Phenomenon and world of it’s own within techno / electro music, ‘Underworld’, is the perfect musical fusion of man and machine. Beautiful poetry of Karl Hyde found an absolute mould in electronic, but intensely emotionally charged, music of Rick Smith, this highly abstracted, dadaistic, mantric use of language allows us to sink again and again into their numbers experiencing them always a new and different as the mind movie repeats but changes. Although the poetry covers the whole spectrum of human emotions from very dark to bright light, the rhythm, the ever going underlying flow, symbolically stands for those most natural, motivating, noble forces, for will for life and betterment.

Plastikman print on the skirt is a photograph of city lights. Minimalism, geometry and abundance of plastic but still with asymmetrical and layered elements suggest highly urban sound cut and pasted into a body of a whole, running back and forth the timeline, time lapsing, seeming four hours had been two.

Inspiration of this outfit is found in underworlds song, ‘Twist’. This track is an instrumental and contains all of Underwolds magical ingredients, continuity of rhythm, sensation of travelling. Sounds scapes in their beauty are a reflection of the level in which the world exists in its finer and faster frequency of sound, light, emotions, thought and hypnotic images.

Years of fascination with symbolism of the eye and the evolution of multiple eye print, creating wave formations from larger to smaller eyes, interlacing into water like patterns with spacial deformations. Use of ultraviolet light is inspired by clubbing atmospheres, also to invoke the illusive and changeable nature of the image.

The MoMove outfit is composed out of the concept where we would compare the human mind to the bio-computer. The top part of the garment stands for hardware: corset has an asymmetrical print of ‘underworlds’, a list of equipment, computers, mixers, samplers, synthesiser/drum machines, effects, mics and miscellaneous… The skirt stands for software or poetry of, ‘MoMove’ track from ‘Underworld’

The ’Dark Train’ outfit found inspiration in various mixes of this Underworlds number. Having made extremely long train trips since my early childhood, trains always meant so much more than traversing distances. It is meant for marvellous exciting adventures which would transport you into new and unknown territory. Within dream symbolism, train and train tracks stand for mind and the minds set ways of working.
Within the collection, this motive perfectly expresses the element of motion in techno music, underlying loops, the swift movie of changing images through the train window. The basic motive of the interlacing train tracks is used to create the dress and further manipulated into its own optical / fractal possibilities, used in frills. The intense black and white image of the total outfit contains elements of rest in the repetitive use of the basic motive. Abundance of frills is used to invoke maximum movement of the garment.

“Sky scraper… thirty thousand feet above the earth beautiful thing you’re a beautiful thing theirty thousand feet above the beautiful earth mmm Sky scraper I love you …” - Underworld. This outfit came from the fusion of the given task: ‘square’ and Underwolds poetry. It started with comparing the square to humanities’ projection of rationalisation on fibre of reality - circle. One of the most evident manifestations of this urban structure, [square architecture]. The ‘Sky scraper I love you’ song relates to New York from above. Further, the square, apart from within the structure of the print, is repeated in squarish pleats of the skirt, then again on the sleeves of the jacket, organically grown, fair trade cotton flannel from boll weevil, is used for the skirt and corset lining. The corset is made in plastic, printed with water based ink for textile. Sky scraper I love you / green. The other outfit is inspired by the beauty of the earth but also by traces that we leave on the face of the planet. The transparent top and corset worn underneath are printed with city structures, as seen from the air, birds ey view, geometrically, crystallised like a structure inspired by Bismuth [mineral, often man made]. The skirt is twelve pleated, a walking gallery of Earth’s spaces as seen from space satellites. New York, Paris, Amsterdam, London, Deserts and Hurricane weather patterns are some of the twelve prints on this skirt.
This dance outfit is created around the concept of flight. Hawk is used to represent exalted liberating flight like feelings of music and dance, it’s mercurial / communicational role. Layers of printed fabric visually cause Op-Art like movement. Soundscapes collection - Dark Star fashion - 2003 - 2005
